Exterminator in Horizon West

About 67,000 residents (58,101 at the 2020 census) · median home built 2014 · roughly three homes in four built in 2010 or later

Horizon West is one of the newest places in Orange County — the Census counts about three in four of its homes as built in 2010 or later. Almost every pest call here comes back to that: new ground, new sod, and termite protection that started on the builder's schedule.

Independent Florida-licensed providers. No obligation for the call.

Two ZIP codes, one community

Horizon West is a Census-designated place rather than a city, and its streets carry two ZIP codes: the northern and western villages mostly use Winter Garden 34787, and the parts closest to the Butler Chain use Windermere 34786. Either way, give your street when you call.

What new construction means for pests

Fire ants in every new lawn. Mile after mile of new sod, beds and curb strips gives fire ants room to build, and winged queens fly in on warm, sunny days after rain. Mounds along sidewalks, in new beds and by the curb are a constant outdoor call. Fire ant treatment

Termite protection has a start date. The Florida Building Code requires termite protection on new homes, and the pest control company files a certificate of compliance with the building department. On a house finished in 2016, that protection is now a decade old, and whether it is still backed by a contract depends on renewals that are easy to miss — particularly after a resale. Termite inspection

Pool cages and lanais. Many homes here have a screened enclosure against the back wall. The seal where the cage meets the house, and the bed of mulch underneath it, is where palmetto bugs, ants and spiders get in. Roach control

Retention ponds and gutters. New subdivisions are laid out around storm ponds, but the Asian tiger mosquito — a day-biter — breeds in containers in suburban yards: gutters, toys, pot saucers and plants. Mosquito control

Questions people ask in Horizon West

Our builder did a termite treatment. Do we need anything else? Find the paperwork and check what was installed and whether the contract has been renewed. If no one can find it, an inspection is the straightforward answer.

The fire ant mounds came back after we treated them. Why? Treating a visible mound does not reach the colonies across the rest of the lawn, and new queens fly in from neighboring lots. A yard-wide approach is what holds.

Can the HOA handle pests for us? Common areas, yes, depending on the association. Inside your home and on your own lot, it is usually the owner's call.

Seeing it right now? Call and describe it — the line can tell you whether a visit is available near your ZIP code today.
