Roach control in Windermere, FL
Two different problems share the word roach in Central Florida. A large palmetto bug on the floor at night usually walked in from outside; small German roaches in the kitchen are living inside the house. The first is a sealing job, the second is a treatment program.
Independent Florida-licensed providers. No obligation for the call.
Which roach is it?
Palmetto bug. UF/IFAS uses the name for the native Florida woods cockroach and, loosely, for any large roach, including the American and smokybrown. The American cockroach is rarely found in houses, UF/IFAS notes, though infestations can follow heavy rain — and Orlando gets more than half its yearly rain from June to September. German roach. Small, light brown, with two dark stripes behind the head. UF/IFAS calls it the species that typically plagues multifamily housing. It lives indoors around kitchens and bathrooms and arrives in boxes, bags and appliances rather than from the yard. Small roaches in the kitchen
How to get rid of them
Palmetto bugs: treat and tighten the perimeter. Mulch against the slab, leaf litter, gaps under doors, weep holes and the joint where a pool cage meets the house are the usual entries.
German roaches: baits and growth regulators placed in the cracks where they hide, with follow-up visits. Repellent sprays tend to scatter them deeper into walls.
What the visit involves
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry and garage inside; slab edge, beds and lanai outside. In a townhouse or condo, the provider will ask about the units next door, because German roaches travel between them.
Common questions
I see one big roach a month. Is that an infestation? Usually not. It is often an outdoor roach that found a way in. Sealing and a perimeter treatment address it.
Why do I see roaches in a clean house? Palmetto bugs come in from outside regardless of how clean the house is. German roaches need food and water, but very little.
How many visits for German roaches? More than one is normal. Ask the provider for the schedule before work starts.
Who to call
Say how big the roaches are, where you see them, and whether you see them in daylight — daytime sightings of small roaches suggest a large population.
Seeing it right now? Call and describe it — the line can tell you whether a visit is available near your ZIP code today.

Florida pest control businesses are licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and each business location must have a certified operator in charge. Any company or individual can be looked up in the department’s public database before a visit is booked.
For this job, the license category to look for is General Household Pest and Rodent Control.
