Ant control in Windermere, FL
The ants inside most Windermere homes are not the ones that bite. Ghost ants and white-footed ants are tiny, nest in walls and plants, and live in colonies far larger than anything visible on the counter — which is why a spray rarely ends it.
Independent Florida-licensed providers. No obligation for the call.
The two you are most likely seeing
Ghost ants are extremely small — about a sixteenth of an inch — with a dark head and a pale, almost see-through body and legs. UF/IFAS describes them as common in central and southern Florida and a major pest here. Indoors they nest in wall voids and the gaps between cabinets and baseboards, and they will nest in potted plants too. Tiny ants in the bathroom
White-footed ants are small and black with pale feet. UF/IFAS counts their colonies at anywhere from 8,000 to 3 million ants, and notes the same trails can run between a nest and food for months. A trail that keeps coming back
How to get rid of them
Not with the spray under the sink. Spraying kills the ants on the counter and nothing else, and the colony simply sends more.
Baits are the tool. For white-footed ants, UF/IFAS calls baits the only effective management method to date. Their workers mostly feed the colony through special eggs rather than mouth to mouth, which is part of why control takes time and the right placement.
The source is usually outside. Mulch against the slab, shrubs touching the walls, and irrigation that keeps the foundation damp are all part of the job.
What the visit involves
Finding the trail, following it back to where it enters, identifying the species, and placing baits or other treatments where the colony will take them. Expect a follow-up visit: ant work is rarely a single trip.
Common questions
Are these fire ants? Fire ants are a yard problem — reddish, with mounds and a painful sting. Fire ant treatment
Should I keep spraying until they come? Better not. Spray on the trail can push ants away from baits.
How long until they are gone? It depends on the species and the size of the colony. Ask the provider what to expect and when to call back.
Who to call
Say where the ants are, how small they are, what color, and whether the trail goes to a window, a sink or a wall outlet.

Florida pest control businesses are licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and each business location must have a certified operator in charge. Any company or individual can be looked up in the department’s public database before a visit is booked.
For this job, the license category to look for is General Household Pest and Rodent Control.
